Sodepur flyover to shut every weekend from July 19 for urgent structural repairs
A 25-year-old man named Priyanshu was allegedly shot dead in Bihar’s Aurangabad district, just 45 days after his wedding. Police said his wife, Gunja Devi, conspired with her maternal uncle, Jeevan Singh (55), to eliminate him. The couple had been in a relationship, and allegedly hired two shooters to carry out the murder.
According to Aurangabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Amrish Rahul, “On June 25, Priyanshu was returning home by train after visiting his sister and had reached Navi Nagar station when he told Devi to send someone on a bike to pick him up.” He added, “On his way from the station to his house, he was shot dead by two people.”
Police stated that Devi and Singh wanted to marry each other, but their families disapproved. As a result, Devi was forcibly married to Priyanshu, a resident of Barwan village under Nabinagar police station, about two months ago. Following the murder, Devi allegedly tried to flee the village, which raised suspicion among Priyanshu’s family members.
Investigators reviewed Devi’s phone records and found that she was in constant touch with Singh. Further analysis revealed that Singh had been communicating with the two shooters. Based on this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the case. Three people — Devi and the two shooters — were arrested. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest Singh.
In a separate incident in the same district, another woman was arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Bikku, with the help of her lover. Bikku’s body was recovered on June 21 with visible external injury marks. The woman was arrested on June 25 and confessed to the crime, according to police.
