Bike rider, pillion killed after goods vehicle rams motorcycle in Diamond Harbour

A 29-year-old motorcyclist and his pillion rider were killed after a goods vehicle rammed into their bike from behind on Diamond Harbour Road beneath Joka Metro Station on Monday morning. The deceased rider has been identified as Anjan Sadhukhan. Both victims were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, according to police sources.

The incident occurred when Anjan was heading towards Thakurpukur with his girlfriend riding pillion. A goods vehicle allegedly struck the motorcycle from behind, causing both to be thrown onto the road. They were rushed in critical condition to Vidyasagar State General Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The driver of the goods vehicle fled the scene and is reportedly an auto-rickshaw driver operating on the Kabardanga–Tollygunge route. Preliminary investigation suggests negligent driving by the goods vehicle driver, though police from Thakurpukur Police Station are also examining whether the motorcycle was speeding at the time. Further investigation is underway.
