Bird flu under control in Jharkhand: Animal Husbandry

Bird flu situation is fast returning to normal in Jharkhand. According to an official from the animal husbandry department, there have been no new cases in the Jharkhand capital since March 3 and Bokaro has already been brought under control.

State Animal Husbandry Director Chandan Kumar backed this up by saying that the central team assessed the situation and expressed satisfaction with the control measures.

“As many as 96 birds were culled and more than 5,000 eggs were destroyed and disposed of in Ranchi after a case of bird flu was detected in Jail More,” Kumar said.

Although the situation is under control, it is not clear when the ban on the sale of chickens will be lifted. A section of the animal husbandry department indicated that it would be ready by Wednesday, but another section said it would take longer, as it takes 21 days after a bird flu case is detected to declare normalcy.

Kumar said that the deputy commissioner will have the final say on the matter, though the rule is 21 days from isolation.

In the midst of information about a quick return to normal, a three-member central team visited Dr. Shibani Lahiri, Dr. Sayan Bhattacharya and Dr. Somesh Thakur Birsa Munda Biological Park for assessment.
