Even as the family of slain Bengali tourist Bitan Adhikari mourns his tragic death in the Pahalgam terror attack, a fresh storm has hit the grieving household. In a shocking turn of events, Bitan’s grandfather Bibhu Adhikari has accused his granddaughter-in-law Sohini of being a Bangladeshi citizen who entered and lived in India using fake documents.

Bibhu alleged that Sohini’s Indian identity is a complete fabrication. He claimed she had previously been deported from Florida in 2023 due to document-related irregularities and has since been living with Bitan at their home in Vaishnavghata. According to him, her application to legally stay in India had also been rejected. “There are criminal cases against her, including one for a fake passport,” Bibhu said emotionally while speaking to reporters.

The allegations don't stop at Sohini alone. Bibhu further claimed that Sohini’s mother too had purchased a property in Vaishnavghata using forged documents. Once discovered, she was forced to leave and return to Bangladesh, he alleged. “They got Sohini married to Bitan by hiding all these facts,” said the grieving grandfather, clearly still reeling from his grandson’s death.

These allegations have added fuel to the already strained relationship between Sohini and her in-laws. At the time of Bitan’s funeral, her distance from the elderly parents of the deceased had drawn public attention and criticism. The family had reportedly been living separately for some time due to internal differences, and Bibhu now blames Sohini for the growing rift.

Sohini has yet to respond publicly to these explosive claims. No official document or police confirmation has emerged yet regarding the allegations made by Bibhu Adhikari. However, the controversy has cast a shadow over the mourning period and raised questions about legal scrutiny and family conflict.

In the backdrop of the national grief over the Pahalgam attack, these revelations add a painful dimension to Bitan Adhikari’s tragic end. His death is now entangled in a web of personal and legal allegations, further complicating an already heart-wrenching loss.
