The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of spreading fake news and undermining the morale of the armed forces in the wake of Operation Sindoor. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleged that Congress prioritized party politics over national interest and indirectly supported Pakistan’s narrative.
Poonawalla said Congress continued to question the operation despite warnings from its own senior leaders. “Even when leaders like Salman Khurshid, Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor advised caution, the party chose to mislead the public. When Pakistan was globally isolated and had suffered militarily, Congress gave them a handle by questioning our armed forces,” he said, demanding an apology from the opposition party.
The BJP also responded to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s remarks criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy. Ramesh had claimed India had suffered a “triple jhatka” as US President Donald Trump hosted Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir for lunch, praised Pakistan’s counter-terror efforts, and claimed to mediate between India and Pakistan.
BJP leaders called Congress’s statements irresponsible and damaging to India’s diplomatic and defence stance. Meanwhile, Ramesh reiterated the opposition’s demand for a special Parliament session to discuss the PM’s recent call with President Trump, asserting that key foreign policy matters should be presented before Parliament.
