A First Information Report has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station under the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate against Kunal Ghosh over allegations of circulating a forged Bharatiya Janata Party document on social media. The complaint, filed by Sashi Agnihotri, claims that a fake document using BJP West Bengal’s official letterhead was created and shared on the platform X to mislead the public during the ongoing election process and damage the party’s reputation.
According to the FIR, the document allegedly originated from a social media handle linked to Kunal Ghosh and contained misleading and defamatory content falsely representing the party’s leadership. The complaint further alleges that Garga Chatterjee amplified the document by sharing it on Facebook, contributing to the spread of misinformation and public mischief. The incident is reported to have occurred between 10:30 am and 4:50 pm on April 20 in cyberspace.
Based on the complaint, Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police registered Case No. 66/2026 under Sections 66, 66C, and 66D of the Information Technology Act, along with multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 318(4), 319(2), 335, 336, 336(3), 340, 352, 353, and 61(2).
