BJP alleges obstruction in Bangaon campaign, TMC counters with attack claims

A political face-off erupted in Bangaon on Sunday during the campaign of BJP candidate Ashok Kirtaniya, with the Bharatiya Janata Party accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress of obstructing their campaign. The incident occurred in the Saha Para area, where supporters from both sides clashed, leading to heightened tensions before the situation was brought under control by police and central forces.

According to BJP, Trinamool supporters entered the campaign route and tried to block the procession, shouting “Go Back” slogans at the BJP candidate. Ashok Kirtaniya alleged that certain women were allegedly paid to disrupt the campaign, calling the move “pre-planned.” He further claimed that democratic rights were being curtailed and accused the local TMC leadership of orchestrating the disruption. The Trinamool Congress strongly rejected these allegations. TMC candidate Biswajit Das countered that BJP workers and supporters, along with a section of police and central forces, allegedly attacked Trinamool workers during the campaign. He also claimed that the BJP did not have proper permission for the event and accused the BJP candidate of spreading misinformation.

The confrontation led to slogans, heated exchanges, and minor scuffles before law enforcement intervened. With elections approaching, both parties have intensified campaigning in the region, and incidents like these highlight rising political tensions on the ground.
