BJP-backed independent candidate Parimal Nathwani wins Jharkhand Rajya Sabha polls, setback for INDIA bloc

BJP-backed Independent candidate Parimal Nathwani emerged victorious in the high-stakes Jharkhand Rajya Sabha elections. The election concluded with a high-voltage counting process that ultimately delivered a substantial blow to the state's ruling Mahagathbandhan (I.N.D.I.A bloc) alliance. Nathwani's successful campaign solidifies a crucial legislative seat, tilting the regional balance of power in favor of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) camp.

The voting matrix revealed a dramatic sequence during the formal verification process. Nathwani originally pooled a total of 30 votes from the state legislators. However, election officials declared two of those ballots invalid due to technical discrepancies, bringing his effective final tally down to 28 votes. Coincidentally, 28 was the exact magic number required to secure a mathematical victory under the complex single transferable voting rules, enabling Nathwani to cross the finishing line safely despite the sudden deduction.

BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey was quick to celebrate the victory publicly on the social media platform X, framing the numerical breakdown as an absolute rejection of the Grand Alliance. Dubey highlighted that while Nathwani successfully mobilized 28 effective votes, the official Congress candidate managed to secure only 20 votes from the assembly floor. The significant margin underscores cross-voting realities and organizational fractures within the opposition alliance, which failed to consolidate its numeric strength.

Before the formal polling commenced in Ranchi, a highly confident Nathwani had voiced absolute faith in receiving support across conventional party lines, stating that he intended to dedicatedly serve the development interests of Jharkhand. His initial claim of having "everyone's support" was validated by the final cross-voting patterns that disrupted the Congress party's traditional base. The election outcome leaves the Mahagathbandhan dealing with an unexpected internal coordination crisis moving into the next legislative session.
