College security guard held over Kolkata student's alleged gang-rape case; 4th arrest so far
The Bharatiya Janata Party has called on the public to observe a 12-hour 'Bengal Bandh' against the rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. State party president Sukanta Majumdar also accused the Left and the Trinamool Congress of employing a strategy of "setting politics" in Bengal.
Sukanta Majumdar said that the TMC government was oppressing students and the Left had expressed its tacit support by not participating in the protests. The announcement comes amid the ongoing clash between police and members of Chhatr Samaj during Nabanna Abhiyan.
Accusing West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee of shielding those involved in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, the BJP on Tuesday called her a "dictator" and demanded her resignation to ensure a fair probe into the matter. The BJP has also demanded that the CBI conduct a polygraph test on Banerjee and police commissioner Vineet Goyal, who the party alleged had initially said that the victim died by suicide.
