BJP Candidate stabbed, attacked in WB, Dilip Ghosh blames TMC for election violence

In a disturbing incident of election-related violence, Shyamal Das, a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the panchayat elections, was fatally attacked in Ashoknagar, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

According to a statement issued by the BJP, the candidate from Bida Rajeev Pur Gram Panchayat in Ashoknagar was subjected to severe beating and stabbed with a knife late at night. His head sustained injuries, and his clothes were stripped off. His wife was also assaulted, and her clothes were torn by members of the ruling party, TMC.

The attackers fled the scene when villagers gathered to intervene. Shyamal Das has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. A case has been registered at the Ashok Nagar police station, but no arrests have been made so far, leading to a tense atmosphere in the area.

In another incident, the ruling Trinamool Congress has been accused of vandalizing the BJP's booth office in Devirhat, Dangding Gudi area of the North Assembly Center district. The BJP alleges that the act of vandalism took place during the night, carried out by miscreants.

As soon as the news of the booth office being ransacked came to light, BJP candidates and supporters reached the spot and informed the police. The police from Pundibari police station arrived at the scene after being notified.

While the BJP accuses the Trinamool Congress of ransacking the booth office due to fear of defeat, the ruling party denies the allegations, calling them baseless. Meanwhile, Dilip Ghosh, the BJP's All India Vice President, expressed concerns over the ruling party's approach to winning the panchayat elections through violence.

Ghosh, who was campaigning for the elections in Belakoba, Rajganj block, said that the state government is not taking adequate measures to address the ongoing unrest. He pointed out incidents such as the recent firing upon the vehicle of Jalpaiguri District President Bapi Goswami and the rising fear among people, which could hinder voter participation.
