BJP demand statement on Adenovirus situation, stage protest in Assembly

The BJP has demanded that the state government provide a statement in the assembly about the current situation regarding adenovirus infections, which have been associated with the deaths of children in West Bengal. During the discussion, the Leader of the Opposition and senior MLA Suvendu Adhikari requested the Speaker, Biman Banerjee, to provide information about adenovirus infections in the state, as there is a climate of fear throughout the region.

The State Minister for Health, Chandrima Bhattacharya, responded by stating that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had already issued a statement on the matter. However, the Leader of the Opposition was not present in the House at the time. In response, the BJP MLAs began to make a commotion and chant slogans against the state government.

The BJP MLAs accused Mamata Banerjee of concealing the true figures and failing to take action to prevent the epidemic from spreading and causing deaths. They claimed that children were continuously dying, and the Chief Minister was only making statements without taking any real action.

The Assembly Speaker, Biman Banerjee, subsequently announced the adjournment of the proceedings of the House. Outside the House, the BJP MLAs protested and continued to chant slogans.

Later, Suvendu Adhikari spoke to the media and expressed his distress at the continuous deaths of children, stating that the government lacked sensitivity towards the issue. He further criticized the Minister's statement, claiming that the Chief Minister was only focused on politics, with no one taking responsibility for the safety of the people of the state who were in fear for their children's lives.
