The BJP is preparing to observe the upcoming 21st of July as 'Loktantra Hatya Diwas' on the day of Trinamool's 'Shaheed Diwas'. The Trinamool Congress will hold its annual 'Shaheed Diwas' event at Dharmatala in Kolkata on July 21, which will be a tribute to the 13 people killed during a demonstration led by Mamata Banerjee on 21 July 1993.
On the same day, the BJP will protest in front of all the police stations in the state and observe it as 'Loktantra Hatya Diwas'. On that day, the effigy of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be burnt across the state. This might lead to clashes between both parties in the streets.
Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari said a day earlier that the way the violence has happened in West Bengal after the elections is the murder of democracy. He said that the BJP will organize a protest against the post-poll violence in West Bengal and added that about one crore people could not cast their votes in the 2023 state panchayat elections.
Another party leader said on Monday that on July 21, there will be a massive protest across the state, and effigies of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be burnt. This will be a symbolic protest against the attitude of the ruling party and government of West Bengal against democracy.
