BJP protests against Hooghly Municipality over alleged corruption, roads, and pond filling

The Hooghly Organizational District BJP staged a protest against Chinsurah Municipality, citing corruption in the housing scheme, illegal pond filling, and poor road conditions. BJP leaders and workers marched from Pipulpati Junction to the municipality office, intending to submit a memorandum listing their seven demands. However, police stopped them at the main gate, leading to a heated exchange between protesters and officials.

As tensions rose, BJP workers sat on the road, raised slogans against the ruling party and municipal authorities, and placed their memorandum at the municipality gate. Protesters alleged large-scale irregularities in housing allotments, unauthorized landfills affecting local water bodies, and neglected road infrastructure. They demanded immediate municipal action and transparency in governance.

Municipal authorities have yet to respond to the allegations, while the ruling party dismissed the protest as politically motivated. Police maintained security outside the municipality, ensuring there were no disruptions. BJP leaders reiterated their demand for an official response and corrective measures on their seven-point agenda.
