BJP leader Arun Hazra, also known as Chinu, has been accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of playing a key role in a massive recruitment corruption scandal in West Bengal. The CBI's chargesheet claims that Chinu acted as an intermediary, facilitating the transfer of large sums of money from job seekers to prominent figures involved in the scam, particularly Sujay Krishna Bhadra, also referred to as 'Kalighat's Uncle.' The total amount involved exceeds 75 crores, according to the CBI.
Hazra is alleged to have coordinated a network of agents across various districts who collected money from candidates seeking primary and SSC (School Service Commission) jobs. These agents are said to have gathered significant sums on Chinu's behalf, with the money ultimately being transferred to Bhadra. The CBI claims that this network operated as part of a larger system of corruption affecting recruitment processes in the state.
During the court proceedings on Tuesday, the CBI's lawyer explained that Hazra’s role was that of a middleman, facilitating the illegal exchange of money for job placements. The CBI also outlined Hazra's network of agents and the manner in which the money was collected and funneled. Despite Hazra’s lawyer arguing that his client was ill and under medical supervision, the court ordered his appearance. The investigation is ongoing, with further developments expected as the CBI deepens its inquiry into the case.
