BJP suspends local leader for allegedly demanding 5 lakh bribe from Behala promoter

Local BJP leader Tuhin Pal from Behala Ward 117 was temporarily suspended by party leadership following bribery and extortion allegations raised by a promoter. The incident surfaced after Kashinath Mandal, a local developer, initiated a building construction project in the New Alipore area. Pal allegedly contacted Mandal and demanded ₹5 lakh to allow construction work to proceed uninterrupted.

The promoter subsequently lodged an official complaint at the Behala police station. An audio recording allegedly featuring Pal demanding the sum also surfaced, prompting police to register a case against him. Following recommendations from the West Bengal BJP Disciplinary Committee and directives from State President Shamik Bhattacharya, the party took immediate disciplinary action.

In a formal suspension letter, the party cited multiple anti-party activities against Pal, including intimidation, threats, and extortion during the post-election period. Reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, the leadership directed Pal to submit a formal explanation responding to the allegations within seven days.
