The statue was damaged under the cover of darkness, prompting strong reactions from political parties and local leaders demanding immediate action against the perpetrators. Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari condemned the act as “extremely condemnable and unfortunate,” stressing that such attacks not only insult individuals but also strike at history, culture, and societal identity. He highlighted ongoing deprivation of rights for tribal and indigenous communities and called for strict legal action to hold the culprits accountable.
TMC Rani Bandh Assembly candidate Tanushree Hansda also visited the site, describing the vandalism as a direct attack on history, self-respect, and the spirit of struggle. She emphasized that such acts undermine societal values and traditions and must not be tolerated under any circumstances.
BJP Rani Bandh Assembly candidate Khudiram Tudu assessed the damage at the site, calling the incident extremely unfortunate and questioning administrative lapses in security. He demanded immediate arrest and strict punishment for the culprits, warning that the honor of Martyr Raghunath Mahto, a symbol of regional pride, cannot be compromised.
The incident has intensified political rivalry in the district, with both TMC and BJP leaders publicly condemning the act and urging prompt action. Local residents expressed shock over the damage, reinforcing calls for increased protection of monuments that hold historical and cultural significance.
