An explosion followed by a blaze occurred in a building located in downtown Tokyo, leaving four individuals injured, according to the city's fire department.
Footage captured flames and smoke emanating from a second-floor business in the vibrant Shimbashi district around 3:20 pm local time.
Authorities dispatched a total of 32 fire trucks to the scene as they responded to the incident. While details about the injured are still emerging, a fire department spokesperson confirmed that three of them were conscious, while information about the fourth person is yet to be disclosed.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Eyewitnesses recounted the powerful nature of the explosion, describing it as a deafening sound that resembled something substantial being dropped from the top of the building.
The aftermath of the blast was marked by scattered pieces of paper throughout the nearby intersection, leading observers to immediately identify it as an explosion.
