Blast near Afghan foreign ministry kills 6, several injured

A suicide bomber killed at least six people and wounded several others near the Afghan Foreign Ministry in Kabul on Monday.

Khalid Zadran, a spokesman for the Kabul Security Command, said six civilians were killed and several others, including three security forces, were injured in today's post-Chasht attack at the Malek Asghar intersection. Zadran said the suicide bomber died at a checkpoint before reaching his target.

Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafy Takor said on Twitter that the attacker had been identified by Afghan forces, but the explosives he was carrying detonated, killing six civilians and injuring scores of others.

An NGO that runs a hospital in Kabul confirmed it had received two dead and 12 wounded, including a child.

Monday's explosion in Kabul was the second attack near the foreign ministry in Kabul in less than three months and the first since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on Thursday in Afghanistan.
