A high-speed race between a BMW and a Mercedes on Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli Sea-Link led to a serious accident on Sunday morning. The BMW, driven by Tariq Chaudhary (29), lost control while allegedly racing the Mercedes, driven by Shahbaz Khan (31). The crash hit a passing cab causing, a Maruti WagonR carrying a family of four, to overturn. Miraculously, no one was seriously injured in the accident.
The incident occurred near pillar 19 of the Sea-Link just before 11 AM, with both luxury cars reportedly speeding at over 120 km/h. The family, including a 10-year-old child, was fortunate to escape without major injuries.
Worli police quickly arrested both drivers on charges of attempted culpable homicide, along with other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Both vehicles were registered under the driver's respective companies. After the crash, the cars were towed away, and the drivers were taken into police custody.
Police officials emphasized the severity of the charges to send a strong message against reckless driving. The FIR includes multiple charges related to rash driving, endangering human life, and participating in illegal racing.
