The body of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was found in Canning town in Parganas South 24 district of West Bengal on Saturday. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Suchitra Mandal.
The family of the deceased and locals in the area said the body was found in a pool of blood after she visited a potato field. The body had deep cuts on the neck. Prima facie it was revealed that the woman was killed by unknown people using a sharp weapon.
Police rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident, after which the body was taken to Canning Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The cause of death was not yet known.
Suchitra has been an active member of the TMC party in the locality for a long time. The police were also looking into the political angle of the murder case.
