The body of Surat Basu, a 24-year-old tourist from East Burdwan, was recovered two days after he drowned while bathing in the Mandarmani sea. The incident took place on November 22, when four friends and a girlfriend had travelled to the coastal destination for a short holiday.
According to police, the group entered the sea around noon. While the others managed to swim back to safety, Surat was swept away by strong waves and went missing. A search operation continued for two days, and his body was finally found on Monday morning.
The body has been sent to Kanthi Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have initiated further inquiry into the incident.
