Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A group of brick-kiln workers heading from Coochbehar to Nepal met with tragedy today when their Bolero car plunged nearly 40 feet off the Asian Highway at Quarter More area in Naxalbari, killing one man instantly and injuring eight others, including two women and a child. The car might have lost control and rolled down a steep roadside ditch. The impact crushed the Bolero into a mangled heap, trapping passengers inside until locals rushed to pull them out after hearing a loud crash.
The deceased has been identified as 48-years-old Rashid Miya from Coochbehar's Ghoksadanga area. All eight injured – also from Coochbehar – were rushed to the nearby hospital, where doctors say two are in critical condition. Eyewitnesses told police that the Bolero car was speeding towards the Panitanki border when the accident occured.
The driver fled the scene immediately, leaving behind the blood-soaked wreckage. Naxalbari SDPO Soumyajit Roy confirms a manhunt is on for the absconding driver while police seized the damaged Bolero and investigation is underway. Locals complaints that heavy vehicles ferrying migrant workers often speed dangerously on this stretch, turning the busy highway into a death trap.
