A powerful bomb blast early Friday morning destroyed the roof and collapsed the mud wall of a house in Sija village under Hatora Panchayat, within the Saithia police station limits of Birbhum district. The explosion triggered panic in the area as the deafening sound was heard across the locality. The house belongs to Sheikh Firoz, a local resident and farmer by profession. The cause of the explosion is yet to be officially confirmed.
According to local sources, immediately after the blast, Sheikh Firoz allegedly brought a JCB machine and cleared the debris from the site. This rapid cleanup has drawn attention, with police suspecting an attempt to tamper with or destroy potential evidence. Birbhum Superintendent of Police Amandeep stated, “Bomb explosion has occurred. Miscreants tried to destroy evidence. Police are investigating all angles. The investigation has started.” A bag was recovered from the site, and samples of soil mixed with explosive materials were collected for forensic testing.
Birbhum district has witnessed multiple similar incidents in the past, with several instances of bomb recovery from different locations. The latest explosion has raised concerns in the region, particularly in the context of the upcoming Assembly elections. The police have launched a formal investigation and are examining all possible aspects, including whether explosives were stored or manufactured in the house. No arrests have been reported so far.
