A bomb was discovered on Saturday morning near the Damodar River dam in Gohagram Babupara, under the Galasi block of Purba Bardhaman district. The device was found at the edge of the Balighat slope on the eastern side of the river. A local resident, who had gone out for his routine morning walk, spotted a black bag lying unattended. “I saw a black bag on the Balighat slope towards the east. Out of curiosity, I went closer and saw that there was a bomb inside the bag,” he said. Alarmed by the sight, he informed others in the area.
Following the alert, locals contacted the Galasi police station. Police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterward and cordoned off the area to prevent any mishap. The location was secured, and movement was restricted as a precaution. The bomb remained untouched until appropriate teams could assess the situation. No injuries or damage were reported at the time of filing this report.
An investigation has been initiated to determine how the bomb reached the site and the motive behind it. Police are questioning locals and reviewing nearby areas for clues. Additional security measures have been implemented in the surrounding regions of Gohagram Babupara to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.
