A bomb explosion on the roof of a school in West Bengal’s Nadia district triggered panic on Saturday amid the prevailing election atmosphere. The incident occurred at Ghoragacha Secondary Education Centre under Kalyani police station limits, where a sudden blast was reported from the attic section of the school building shortly after examinations had concluded for the day.
According to school staff, students had already left the premises after completing their exams when a loud explosion was heard from the upper portion of the building. Teachers rushed to the rooftop area and discovered that a crude bomb placed in the attic had detonated, damaging parts of the asbestos roof and leaving burn marks along with a strong smell of explosives. Another unexploded crude bomb was also recovered from the site.
Police teams from Kalyani station were immediately informed and rushed to the location. A large contingent of security personnel secured the area and initiated an investigation into how the explosives were placed inside a school building and who was responsible. No casualties have been reported, but officials acknowledged that the incident could have resulted in a major tragedy had students still been present.
The incident has intensified political tensions in the region, with allegations exchanged between rival parties over responsibility. While one side has blamed political opponents for the act, the other has strongly denied the charges. Authorities have now launched a detailed probe to determine the origin of the explosives and prevent further security breaches in the area.
