Tension escalated in Durgapur’s Steel City area ahead of the upcoming elections after a bomb was hurled at the residence of Shashwati Giri, General Secretary of BJP Durgapur East Mandal No. 1, on Friday night. The incident occurred on Rana Pratap Road shortly after 9:00 pm, when unidentified miscreants allegedly threw a bomb in front of her house and fled under the cover of darkness. The explosion was reported to be powerful enough to shake the surrounding area, leaving family members deeply shaken.
According to the family, the sudden blast created panic in the neighbourhood, with residents rushing out of their homes to assess the situation. No injuries have been reported so far, but the intensity of the explosion has raised concerns about security in the area, particularly in the run-up to the elections.
Police from Durgapur Police Station reached the spot soon after being informed and began an investigation. Officers are examining the scene and gathering evidence to identify those responsible, as security remains tightened in the locality following the incident.
