Another KMC councillor, Biswajit Mondal arrested, after woman alleges molestation and threats
Security was tightened at the Anandpur momo warehouse complex in Kolkata on Thursday as a bomb squad conducted a thorough check of the premises where a massive fire broke out four days ago. Section 163 has been imposed in the area as a precautionary measure, restricting movement while the search operation continues.
The checks come amid mounting concern following the devastating blaze that engulfed two adjoining warehouses, killing at least 21 people so far, while around 27 others remain unaccounted for. The fire had started in the early hours of January 26 and took nearly two days to be fully brought under control. Authorities are continuing rescue and recovery operations, with identification of bodies to be carried out through DNA tests due to severe charring.
Meanwhile, the owner of the adjacent Pushpanjali Decorators warehouse has been arrested on charges of causing death due to negligence. Cases have also been registered against the owners of the momo warehouse that was completely destroyed in the fire, though no arrests have been made from the company so far. Investigations are ongoing into alleged lapses in fire safety clearances and possible violations related to the construction of the warehouses.
