West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu finds himself in the midst of controversy following a public event in Purvasthali, East Burdwan district, where he referred to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the incarnation of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. In a video that went viral, Basu drew parallels between Chaitanya Dev's principles of religious unity and Mamata Banerjee's inclusive approach, asserting that she embodies the ideals of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
The opposition has strongly criticized Basu's statement, with BJP councilor Sajal Ghosh condemning it as an attempt to curry favor with the Chief Minister. CPI(M) Central Committee member Sujan Chakraborty commented that Basu's remarks showcase the lengths Trinamool Congress leaders are willing to go to please their leader, Mamata Banerjee. This isn't the first instance of such comparisons, as Trinamool Congress leaders have previously likened Mamata Banerjee to spiritual figures like Ramakrishna Paramahansa and Maa Sarada.
