A case of theft in broad daylight shook Ichhapur after a woman posing as a customer stole jewellery from a local gold shop. The incident took place a few days ago when the woman spent considerable time examining ornaments but left without making a purchase.
Shop owner Nandan Karmakar grew suspicious and, upon counting his stock, found that five gold lockets were missing. He immediately checked the CCTV footage, which revealed the woman leaving the shop with the ornaments. Karmakar lodged a written complaint at the Noapara police station.
Police swung into action and tracked down the accused within hours. The woman was arrested from the local area, and all five stolen lockets were recovered. Authorities said the quick resolution was possible due to timely reporting and surveillance footage.
Expressing relief, Karmakar praised the swift response of the police, noting that within 12 to 13 hours of the theft, the culprit was in custody and the jewellery safely returned.
