BSF arrests 6 Bangladeshis, including 2 kids at Bangladesh border

The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended six Bangladeshi nationals, including two children, at the Mekhliganj border in West Bengal. The operation was part of an ongoing initiative to control illegal immigration. The BSF acted on intelligence reports and intercepted the group near a farm area in Botbari, situated along the Mekhliganj region. The detainees were attempting to return to Bangladesh as part of a broader crackdown on illegal migrants.

The individuals arrested include Kabil Sharif (33), his wife Hazera Sharif (27), their two children, Irfan Sharif (5) and Ibrahim Sharif (1), along with Mohammad Nadil Sardar (25), a Bangladeshi national, and Mithun Roy (25), an Indian national. Roy, believed to be involved in human trafficking, was arrested alongside the Bangladeshis. The group was reportedly trying to cross the border back into Bangladesh, following heightened security measures that have been in place to locate and deport illegal migrants across India.

Kabil Sharif and Mohammad Nadil Sardar are said to have entered India illegally several years ago. Kabil Sharif later brought his wife and children to India, where they had been living. The BSF suspects that the Sharif family possessed counterfeit Indian identity documents, which helped them remain undetected while living in the country. Following the intensified checks and arrests in major cities across India, the group attempted to flee back to Bangladesh.

The BSF has been ramping up surveillance and border patrols along various checkpoints, including the Mekhliganj and Uttar Dinajpur borders, to track down illegal immigrants. This operation comes as part of India’s ongoing efforts to identify and capture individuals attempting to cross the border illegally. BSF sources confirmed that in addition to the six arrests in Mekhliganj, another Bangladeshi national and an Indian trafficker were arrested during an operation at the Uttar Dinajpur border.

Following the arrest, the six Bangladeshis were handed over to the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) in accordance with established protocols for foreign nationals detained near the border. Mithun Roy and Mohammad Nadil Sardar were transferred to the local police in Mekhliganj for further investigation. This operation forms part of the broader security measures taken by the BSF to curb illegal immigration and human trafficking at India’s borders.
