BSF constable held in Kolkata for duping many women of lakhs with fake marriage promises

Mohammad Nishad Ali, a Border Security Force (BSF) constable and resident of Budge Budge, has been arrested for allegedly duping multiple women of lakhs of rupees by promising marriage under false identities. According to police sources, the accused used social media platforms and websites to contact women by concealing his identity and presenting fake names. He reportedly gained their trust through promises of love and marriage and then convinced them to transfer money on various pretexts, including helping with land purchases and buying vehicles.

The police said the alleged fraud had been going on for a long time, particularly in the Sapooji area of New Town. Victims who had reportedly transferred significant amounts of money filed complaints at Techno City police station. Following the complaints, the police began a probe, during which they collected digital and material evidence related to the transactions and communications. Based on this evidence, Mohammad Nishad Ali was arrested from the New Town area.

Investigators stated that although Ali is posted as a BSF constable, he often took leave from duty and remained active in different parts of Kolkata. Police are currently verifying the total number of victims and examining whether similar complaints exist in other jurisdictions. Authorities are also looking into the financial trail and other possible associates linked to the accused.
