Angry mob vandalises TMC leader's house, sets fire over corruption allegations
Tension prevailed along the Sukhdevpur border in Malda's Vaishnavnagar area on Saturday during an ongoing pushback operation involving alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators. According to local sources, individuals who had been pushed back from the Indian side were not allowed to enter Bangladesh, resulting in a large gathering near the border. Authorities stated that security personnel were deployed in significant numbers after reports of unrest and attempts to create disturbances in the border area.
The situation developed in a section of the Sukhdevpur border where approximately 1,200 metres of fencing has yet to be completed. The state government has initiated the process of clearing and transferring land required for the installation of border fencing and related security infrastructure. Simultaneously, authorities have been carrying out procedures involving the identification, detention, and pushback of alleged illegal infiltrators in accordance with applicable regulations.
According to local sources, a large number of people gathered on the Bangladesh side of the border during the early hours of Saturday and began protesting. Security forces maintained a heavy deployment in the area to prevent any escalation of the situation and to ensure law and order along the international border. Border security personnel continued monitoring the area throughout the day as gatherings remained near the unfenced stretch of the border.
