BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
The body of a BSF jawan was recovered from a hotel on VIP Road in Kolkata, raising questions over the circumstances of his stay. The deceased, identified as 43-year-old Mangal Bhilan from Punjab, was posted at the CGO Complex in Delhi.
Police said Mangal had gone home on March 7 after a month’s leave and returned to Kolkata from Punjab by air the next day. He was scheduled to resume duty on the 7th of this month, but instead of returning to work, he checked into the Kolkata hotel and stayed there.
Hotel staff informed the police after the jawan had not been seen outside his room for two days. Officers broke open the door and found him dead. Initial police assessment suggests he may have suffered a heart attack, possibly linked to excessive alcohol consumption during his stay.
Investigators are also trying to determine why Mangal chose to remain in Kolkata despite having a home in Punjab and a posting in Delhi. A detailed post-mortem report is awaited.
