BSF nabs gold dealer on Indo-Bangladesh border

In a significant development, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed on the India-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad, West Bengal, apprehended an individual with 10 gold biscuits. The arrested person has been identified as Atiqur Rahman, a resident of the district. The seized gold biscuits weigh approximately 277.37 grams, with an estimated value of Rs 16 lakh 46 thousand 190.

The BSF revealed that its jawans stationed at the border outpost in Atrosia, Murshidabad, received intelligence a day prior, indicating the involvement of a smuggler disguised as a farmer attempting to bring gold across the border. Since then, heightened vigilance was maintained in the area. Atiqur Rahman, whose farm is located on the other side of the border, was intercepted while returning on his bicycle after work. Initial searches yielded no results, prompting a thorough inspection of every part of the bicycle. It was during this search that the gold was discovered concealed in the paddle.

According to the BSF, Atiqur Rahman confessed that he received the gold biscuits from a person named Babu, residing in Buxar village of Chapai Nawabganj district in Bangladesh. His task was to deliver the gold to someone on the other side of the border. The arrested individual has now been handed over to the Lalgola Custom Office for further legal proceedings.

This incident highlights the continuous efforts of the BSF to combat smuggling activities along the India-Bangladesh border. Their increased vigilance and successful apprehension of the smuggler have prevented a significant amount of gold from being illegally transported.

The seizure of the gold biscuits and the subsequent arrest of Atiqur Rahman serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in curbing cross-border smuggling. The BSF's swift action underscores their commitment to maintaining the integrity of the border and curbing illicit activities.

The successful operation conducted by the BSF signifies a significant blow to the illegal gold smuggling network operating in the region. Authorities will continue to investigate the matter to identify any potential accomplices involved in this smuggling attempt.

The BSF's relentless efforts in securing the border and combating smuggling activities are crucial in safeguarding national security and preventing the illegal flow of goods across borders.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further actions will be taken based on the findings and evidence gathered during the process.
