High tension gripped a border village in Nadia’s Chapra on Monday after personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) were accused of physically assaulting a minor boy and his mother. The incident occurred when the 11-year-old child was returning home with his mother after a tuition session. According to local sources, BSF jawans stationed near the border intercepted them under the suspicion that they were Bangladeshi infiltrators trying to cross into Indian territory.
The family alleged that despite showing identification and explaining their local residence, the jawans refused to listen and subjected them to physical abuse. The minor boy sustained injuries during the scuffle and had to be admitted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. As the news of the assault spread, a large crowd of villagers gathered at the Gate No. 1 area of Hatkhola Gram Panchayat, leading to a heated standoff with the security forces.
The victim's mother, in her statement to the police, expressed deep trauma, claiming they were stopped without provocation. Following the incident, the family filed a formal written complaint against the concerned BSF personnel at the Chapra Police Station, alleging misuse of power and harassment. Local residents have also complained that frequent search operations and aggressive patrolling by the BSF have created an atmosphere of fear among those living in the border hamlets.
