The Border Security Force (BSF) seized 2.367 kilograms of gold valued at ₹2,31,22,756.70 from the India-Bangladesh border area in North 24 Parganas on June 25. The gold was hidden inside the rear tyre of a bicycle being used for smuggling.
The incident took place at around 5:30 PM when BSF personnel noticed a person riding a bicycle suspiciously toward the Indian side near the border. According to officials, the security personnel observed abnormal swelling in the rear tyre during routine checks. When they moved closer for inspection, the individual abandoned the bicycle and fled toward Kashipur village. The BSF team initiated an immediate search in the area but the suspect managed to escape.
A detailed examination of the bicycle revealed 20 gold biscuits concealed inside the rear tyre. Following recovery, the seized gold was taken to the Ranaghat Border Outpost for further legal procedures. The BSF continues its investigation to identify and locate the individual involved in the smuggling attempt.
