Another KMC councillor, Biswajit Mondal arrested, after woman alleges molestation and threats
• BSF arrests two people with six country-made pistols and 20 cartridges in Cooch Behar
• Arms seized during naka checking hours before PM Narendra Modi’s scheduled meeting
• Investigation underway to determine purpose and possible links to illegal arms network
Security agencies in West Bengal intensified vigilance ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Cooch Behar, leading to a major arms seizure late Saturday night. The Border Security Force (BSF) arrested two individuals during naka checking in the Changrabandha area and recovered six country-made pistols along with 20 rounds of cartridges.
According to officials, the operation took place around 2:30 am when security personnel were conducting routine checks as part of heightened security arrangements before the Prime Minister’s scheduled meeting in the district. During the search, the suspects were intercepted and found carrying illegal firearms and ammunition. Initial investigations indicate that the accused were allegedly transporting the weapons from Mekhliganj. After their arrest, BSF personnel handed the two suspects over to local police for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
Authorities said the recovery is significant given the heightened security situation in the state ahead of the assembly elections and the Prime Minister’s public event. Investigators are now trying to determine the purpose behind transporting the weapons and whether the accused are linked to a larger network involved in illegal arms trafficking.
