In a successful counter-smuggling operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal intercepted a significant haul of gold with an estimated value of Rs 56.5 lakh. The operation took place near the Betai border post in Nadia district, where BSF personnel apprehended a smuggler attempting to throw a bundle from the Bangladesh side towards India.
The bundle, upon inspection, was found to contain eight gold biscuits, collectively weighing 933.54 grams. The detained individual, identified as Gautam Rai from Nadia district, had received the gold from a smuggler in Bangladesh and was reportedly set to receive a mere thousand rupees in return for his smuggling efforts. Following the interception, Rai and the confiscated gold were handed over to the Customs Department in Chapra for further legal action.
This seizure underscores the vigilant efforts of the BSF in curbing cross-border smuggling activities. The intercepted gold, valued at over Rs 56 lakh, represents a significant dent in the illicit trade along the India-Bangladesh border, with the apprehension of the smuggler providing valuable leads for ongoing investigations into such operations in the region.
