Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed on the India-Bangladesh border in Nadia district successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt on Wednesday night, seizing US dollars worth Rs 1.39 crore (approximately 1,66,900 US dollars). According to a statement released on Thursday afternoon, the BSF reported that individuals were attempting to smuggle this substantial amount of foreign currency from India into Bangladesh.
The operation took place following information received by the BSF's intelligence branch, prompting the soldiers deployed at the BSF border post Betai to cordon off suspicious areas. Upon detecting unusual activities, the soldiers swiftly surrounded the smugglers, who managed to escape under the cover of darkness and dense fog. Despite the escape, a thorough search led to the discovery of four bundles containing the seized US dollars, which have now been handed over to the Chapra Custom Office for further legal action.
BSF South Bengal Frontier Public Relations Officer, AK Arya (DIG), commended the success of the operation and applauded the vigilance displayed by the soldiers on duty. He emphasized that this interception highlights the BSF's commitment to preventing smuggling and criminal activities on the border.
