ISIS India head, Saquib Nachan dies in Delhi hospital after brain haemorrhage
The corneas of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee have brought sight to two individuals suffering from corneal blindness. Dr. Asim Kumar Ghosh, Director of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO), announced on Friday that the corneal transplants were successfully performed on Thursday night, and both patients are now healthy and recovering well.
Dr. Ghosh emphasized that the identities of the patients remain confidential, adhering to the standard procedures followed during corneal transplants. The former Chief Minister, who passed away on Thursday morning, had his corneas harvested by noon, and the transplants were completed later that night.
Although Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had retinal issues, his corneas were in excellent condition. Notably, he had never undergone cataract surgery, which often impacts the quality of the cornea. This decision may have contributed to the successful transplantation, allowing his corneas to restore vision to others.
The body of Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was kept at Peace World on Thursday night. On Friday morning, his mortal remains were taken to the CPM state headquarters, Alimuddin Street. There, his body was kept until 3:00 pm for public tributes. Following this, it was moved to Dinesh Majumdar Bhavan, the CPM student and youth wing's state office, before being donated to the Metropolitan Medical College for future medical research.
