Acting in compliance with government directives, the Howrah Municipal Corporation on Monday began demolishing an unauthorized building on Sarat Chatterjee Road in Ward No. 44. Bulldozers and civic personnel were deployed at the site to carry out the demolition of the structure, which officials stated had been constructed in violation of approved building permissions.
According to municipal sources, permission had originally been granted for the construction of a two-storey building at the location. However, the structure was allegedly expanded into a five-storey building without authorization. Following complaints submitted by local residents regarding the alleged violations, the Corporation initiated the demolition process within its jurisdiction.
Residents of the locality stated that complaints regarding the building had been raised repeatedly over a prolonged period, although no action had been taken earlier. Municipal authorities subsequently began the demolition drive following directions issued by the new government. Heavy machinery was brought to the site as civic officials supervised the operation on Sarat Chatterjee Road.
