Behala Banitirtha Girls' High School was targeted by burglars over the weekend, with locks broken and almirahs ransacked. The incident occurred on Monday morning when the school's caretaker arrived to water the trees and discovered the main collapsible gate’s lock had been forced open.
Upon further inspection, it was found that the locks of the teacher-in-charge’s office and another room had also been broken. Seven almirahs were vandalized, with files and documents scattered across the floor. The theft was reported to the authorities immediately.
According to the teacher-in-charge, approximately ₹10,000 was stolen from one of the almirahs, while the contents of the others appeared to have been rifled through. It remains unclear whether the burglars were specifically searching for cash or if they were looking for important documents.
The Parnashree Police Station was notified, and an investigation was promptly launched. Officers visited the school premises, collected evidence, and reviewed CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprits. Initial reports suggest that the burglars may have entered the school late at night, taking advantage of the two-day closure.
