A bus carrying Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel fell into the Sindh river from the Kullan bridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday, July 30. The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall in the area. Officials confirmed that the bus veered off the bridge and plunged into the river in the Kullan area of Gund sub-division.
All personnel onboard the bus were safely rescued, according to officials. The exact number of ITBP personnel travelling in the bus has not yet been officially disclosed. "The driver has sustained injuries and has been shifted to a hospital," an official stated.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams from Ganderbal and its sub-unit in Gund immediately launched a joint rescue operation at the site. Rescue teams were seen working around the vehicle to remove it from the water and to ensure that no one was left behind. Visuals from the scene showed the damaged bus partially submerged in the river.
This incident occurred on the same day as another road mishap in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, where a passenger vehicle fell into a gorge, resulting in seven deaths and injuries to 15 others. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation in both districts.
