Bus falls into river in Nepal, at least 18 people killed

A devastating road accident on the Prithvi Highway has claimed the lives of at least eighteen people after a passenger bus plunged into the Trishuli River. The vehicle, identified by its registration number Ga 2 Kha 1421, was en route from Pokhara to the capital, Kathmandu, when it veered off the road near Charaudi in the Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7.

The crash occurred late at night, significantly hampering initial rescue efforts due to the darkness and difficult terrain. Among the deceased are twelve men and six women, including two foreign nationals. At the time of the incident, the bus was reportedly carrying a total of 44 passengers. Local residents joined forces with personnel from all three district security agencies to conduct the high-stakes recovery operation.

Emergency teams successfully rescued twenty-six injured survivors from the wreckage. While some victims received immediate stabilization at local clinics, the majority of the wounded were referred to advanced medical facilities in Kathmandu for specialized care. Authorities have confirmed that all individuals have now been retrieved from the site, and investigations into the cause of the plunge are underway.
