The Calcutta High Court has issued a stern order stating that no bus is allowed to operate in the city without a proper permit. This directive comes in response to a public interest case filed by Kakali Dutt, who alleged that numerous buses were operating without permits in Central Kolkata, Esplanade, Central Bus Terminal, and Rabindra Setu areas. Dutt identified specific bus numbers in the plea, claiming they lacked the necessary permits.
The court, acknowledging the seriousness of the complaint, summoned an affidavit from the state government, which subsequently revealed the truth in the plaintiff's allegations. As a result, the transport department is set to issue show cause notices to buses operating illegally, and strict action will be taken against those found in violation.
