Calcutta High Court orders arrest of Delhi Capitals cricketer Abishek Porel in rape case

The Calcutta High Court has directed the immediate arrest of Delhi Capitals and Bengal cricketer Abishek Porel in connection with a rape case registered against him. The court also ordered police to seize his electronic devices to prevent the alleged circulation of photographs and videos linked to the complainant and to preserve digital evidence during the investigation.

The order was passed by Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya after the court was informed that Porel and another accused had not been apprehended despite police efforts. The court instructed the investigating agency to trace and arrest the accused at the earliest and to confiscate all relevant electronic devices as part of the ongoing probe.

The case was registered at Mogra Police Station after a medical student alleged that Porel established a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage. The complaint further alleges that he repeatedly recorded intimate moments and later threatened to circulate the material. Along with the rape charge, the case includes allegations of criminal intimidation and other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The High Court directed investigators to secure all digital evidence to ensure the complainant's identity and privacy remain protected during the investigation. The seizure of electronic devices was ordered to prevent any possible dissemination of sensitive material and to facilitate forensic examination.

Abishek Porel is a wicketkeeper-batter who represents Bengal in domestic cricket and has played for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. The High Court's order marks a significant development in the criminal proceedings, with the investigation continuing under the directions issued by the court.
