Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 hits ₹100 crore worldwide on day 2, trails behind Singham Again
The Calcutta High Court declined to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on Monday concerning the ongoing sit-in protest by junior doctors at Esplanade. The petition requested that the demonstration be moved to the side of the road, arguing that its current location is obstructing traffic flow on this arterial route. The junior doctors have been staging a fast-unto-death since Saturday, demanding justice for the rape and murder of their colleague from R G Kar Hospital, as well as improved workplace safety measures.
A division bench led by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam stated that it would not intervene in the matter, noting that the case related to the R G Kar incident is currently under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. The petitioner's lawyer raised concerns about the ongoing traffic disruption caused by the protest, emphasizing the need for a solution that does not hinder daily commutes.
The bench, which included Justice Bivas Pattanayak, suggested that the petitioner return to the court after the Durga Puja vacation for further consideration. This decision shows the court's stance on not interfering with protests that are connected to a matter already being heard at a higher level. The junior doctors' protest underscores significant concerns about the safety and security of medical professionals in West Bengal.
