Two suspected cases of the Nipah virus have been reported in West Bengal, bringing renewed focus on the deadly infection known for its high fatality rate and the absence of a confirmed treatment or vaccine, reports said.
Health concerns are heightened in the state as the bat-borne virus can spread through contaminated date palm products, including raw sap, jaggery and sweets, which are widely consumed during the winter season, increasing the potential risk of transmission.
