Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
The Canadian government has updated its travel advisory for India, warning its citizens against traveling to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, excluding Ladakh, due to heightened risks of violence and terrorism. The warning comes in the wake of the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
In the advisory, Canada highlighted that the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains tense, with a significant risk of violent protests, civil unrest, and acts of terrorism. It also pointed out that violent clashes between militants and security forces occur regularly, often resulting in civilian casualties.
The advisory stressed that terrorist attacks could happen at any time and urged Canadian citizens to exercise extreme caution if they find themselves in vulnerable areas. It also specifically mentioned that civilians could inadvertently become victims during such incidents.
Additionally, Canada warned against travel near border areas with Pakistan, citing volatility along the Line of Control (LoC). The advisory noted that the security situation along the LoC remains unpredictable and that the Attari-Wagah border crossing is currently closed.
While the advisory does not restrict travel to the Union Territory of Ladakh, travelers were advised to stay informed about the evolving security environment across India. Canadians already in India were urged to stay connected with local authorities and follow official guidance.
This updated advisory comes amid broader international attention to rising security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam attack, which left multiple tourists dead and many others injured.
