Case against Rahul Gandhi for 'provoking crowd' in Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the state police to file a case against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of "provoking the crowd" during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The directive follows a clash between nearly 5,000 Congress workers, led by Rahul Gandhi, and authorities when they attempted to enter Guwahati on Tuesday as part of the yatra.

Nearly 5,000 Congress workers, led by Rahul Gandhi, attempted to enter Guwahati on Tuesday during the resumed 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Assam. The clash ensued as party workers were intercepted. Following this the partymen got into a clash with the police, breaking police barricades. Cops resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.

Addressing a gathering close to the Guwahati border, Rahul Gandhi said his party workers would never break the rules and disrupt law and order; however, “this doesn't mean that we are weak”.

The party has persistently alleged government interference in their foot march since its commencement in the state on Thursday. Before leaving for Guwahati, Rahul alleged that Union home minister Amit Shah instructed the Assam CM to stop him from meeting students, which was scheduled for today.
